New York City Subway 7 Clip ArtAs a Crains NY article discusses, Developers such as the Silverstein Group and Durst Fetner, various construction companies and the city of New York have pooled together $750,000 to apply for a $3,000,000 grant from the TIGER II Discretionary Grant Program, an offshoot of the national Department of Transportation.  TIGER II has $660M to hand out but it requires recipients to put a fair amount of their own skin in the game.

The move to extend the No. 7 line comes as development continues on the West Side in the low 40’s, including the newly erected Silver Towers, two large rental buildings by the Silverstein group.  Real Estate Developers want to continue to make the area more attractive and increase property values, and the construction industry sees the transformation as a way to increase jobs.  The grant would secure money needed to redesign the subway station to accommodate an extension down the road, which is scheduled for a 2013 completion.
