Review of Hunan Park II on UWS – My favorite Chinese Food North of Houston Street!

Everytime I have a showing in the Upper West Side in the 90s, I try to work in a lunch or dinner.  Or Take out.  Doesn’t matter – this unassuming place makes great Chinese-American fare.

4 Stars, From yelp.com

Anytime I’m working in the upper UWS and have a lunch break, I steer us towards Hunan Park II.  Is there a first one?  Don’t know don’t care.

I’ve stuck to the Americanized Chinese food, but that’s because it is delicious.  The sushi looks yummy, but I’ve yet to try it.  My staples for any CA joint are G Tsos and H&S soup.  The soup, mayhaps a pinch of corn starch too thick, has a fresh, robust flavor with a great balance of acid and heat.  The bits inside are all delicious, with no off tasting pork, tough mushrooms or bizarre ____.  I’ve had a lot of ‘off’ hot and sour soup.

The General Tso’s is as sticky and sweet/spicy as it gets.  A big fan.  It reminds me of how I used to get it in DC (the best city for Chinese food I’ve found oddly enough).  As well, the broccoli was well cooked, and the brown rice just a smidge sticky.

Oh yeah, and this comes with a fried cabbage roll, tea and a small bowl of house made wontons (it seems) and their own duck sauce (I think).  All for like $8.50.

Anyone need to go look at properties in the upper UWS?  PLEASE contact me I want to get some lunch.

Chow!
